Plastic glass or bowl

a cup of dried figs, cut in half
a cup of dried, pitted prunes
a cup of dried apricots, cut in half
a cup of golden raisins
½ a cup of sultanas (white seedless grapes)
1/4 cup of roasted, unsalted almonds, walnuts and hazelnuts
A cup of sugar (or to taste)
2 ½ cups of boiling water

Food Groups present in the recipe
Fruits: Prunes, Apricots, Raisins
Nuts: Almonds, Walnuts, Hazelnuts

1.  Place all the solid ingredients in a plastic or glass bowl and mix gently.
2.  Add the water to barely cover the fruits
3.  Sprinkle the sugar on the fruits and mix again
4.  Cover and refrigerate overnight to allow marinating
5.  Serve chilled in juice

Kid’s participation
Kids can easily participate in preparing this dish, they can mix the ingredients together, and sprinkle sugar on the fruits, kids can also help in filling the bowl with water and then pouring the juice in bowls.

Khoshaf is served cold in a bowl with sprinkled nuts on top.
Nutritional & cultural curiosities
Khoshaf is originally an Ottoman recipe frequently served in Ottoman palaces especially to the Sultanas in the afternoon or when in the company of guests. It was a staple Ramadan dish at the palace.
Useful Tips Leave the sugar to soak overnight to form a delicious sauce that makes this salad sweet and perfect any time of the year.
